Southbridge Road Reconstruction Project – Summer 2025

The Brown County Highway Department will be reconstructing Southbridge Road, from the I-41 interchange through the Lawrence Drive intersection, during the summer of 2025. As part of this project:

  • Southbridge Road will be redesignated as County Highway GV (CTH GV).
  • The roadway will be renamed Generations Boulevard.
  • The construction is officially titled GV-14 and will occur in three distinct stages.

Project Stages, Summaries, and Timeline

3 July 3 August 27 See Stage 3 Overview Plan. Construction of Roundabout. Hard closure with traffic restrictions. Lawrence Drive to the south to be closed.
4 September 15 Final items to complete GV-14 work. No traffic restrictions anticipated.

Additional details for current phase (Stage 2): 

This stage will result in significant traffic disruptions, particularly for residents and businesses south of Southbridge Road. A helpful video about this is at the top of this webpage. Please note that key changes include:

  • Full closure of the Southbridge Road and Lawrence Drive intersection to all traffic, with one exception:
    • Northbound Lawrence Drive to westbound Southbridge Road access will be maintained for Innovation Court traffic only.
  • All other properties located south of Southbridge Road, between I-41 and American Boulevard, will need to exit the area via southbound Lawrence Drive or French Road.

A detour route has been created by Brown County for businesses on Innovation Court, and a map is available through the project link above.

Additionally, Garroman Drive, which connects Lawrence Drive and American Boulevard, will remain open to provide an alternate route. Please note:

  • This road is only 20 feet wide, as the City has not yet secured the right-of-way for the southern portion.
  • The City is continuing efforts to acquire the necessary land, but the property owner has not responded to acquisition efforts.
  • Due to its narrow width, Garroman Drive is expected to become congested during construction.

  • Understand that this is a Brown County-led project and is not under direct City control.
