Building a Deck, Gazebo, or Pergola:
Perhaps you've always wanted to build a deck, gazebo, or pergola to provide a place of leisure and solace. To construct a deck, gazebo, or pergola in the City of De Pere, here are some important resources to help guide you through the process.
Seven Key Things to know about Building a Deck, Gazebo, or Pergola:
- Pergolas, gazebos, and decks without railings less than 24 inches in height from grade are not considered part of the primary structure and are subject to accessory building and structure regulations.
- Attached decks over 24 inches from grade shall meet the same setback requirements as the principal structure.
- An attached deck or stand-alone deck if serving a door to the dwelling shall be in accordance with all state codes and municipal zoning codes.
- Decks that stand more than 24 inches from final grade require a guard rail system.
- A deck permit does not include a porch or any other integral roof system.
- Frost protected footings are required for a deck serving a door to the dwelling
- Decks, gazebos and pergolas shall not be built in any utility, city sewer and city drainage easements.
