City Administrator Larry Delo sets retirement date for Dec. 18, 2024

After 21 years of dedicated service to our community, Larry Delo, our City Administrator, has announced his plans to retire at the end of 2024. Earlier today, he submitted his letter of resignation to Mayor James Boyd. Delo has outlined his final day with the City as Dec. 18, 2024.

The City will begin discussing next steps with leadership and community stakeholders. As decisions are made regarding a search for our next City Administrator, we will provide continuous updates to our community.

We thank Larry Delo for the tremendous work he’s done in the City of De Pere for more than two decades, we are grateful for the roughly nine months he will continue to provide leadership to our organization as we prepare for this transition, and we look forward to continuing his legacy of innovative, forward-thinking, and thoughtful leadership for De Pere.

City, Habitat for Humanity launch Rock the Block program in De Pere

The City of De Pere held a press conference at City Hall on March 20 with Habitat for Humanity to announce the launch of a brand-new initiative here in our community, Rock the Block! A neighborhood revitalization effort will occur in east De Pere for the first-ever, week-long, volunteer-driven event in September 2024. This could provide exterior home rehab services like porch repair, siding, roofing, and landscaping.

From there, Rock the Block will return to De Pere in a west-side neighborhood in 2026!

This first Rock the Block project area lies immediately east of City Hall and the new Mulva Cultural Center, extending Ontario St and Washington St, George St to the north, and Merrill St to the south. Within this area, 170 owner-occupied homes stand as the backbone of our community, but have a median construction year of 1984 and 21% of housing units predating 1950.

For more info on Rock the Block, please visit https://loom.ly/HNYzLig to learn about this new endeavor and how you can be a part of it! Habitat for Humanity and the City of De Pere are now starting outreach to prospective homeowners to participate. The application program will continue for the next three months.

Beyond this partnership, the City of De Pere, like other cities in the state, is striving to create numerous ways to meet the needs of its residents with affordable housing and workforce housing options – and we have more exciting program announcements soon to come! Stay tuned.

Sump pump reminder

With spring weather comes potential for basement backups. Please make sure your sump pump is working, properly installed, and not connected to the sanitary sewer! Excess water hampers our community’s ability to mitigate flooding!

Reminder: Please don't put garbage/recycling carts in street

Friendly reminders for garbage/recycling carts:

Please place polycarts on the terrace or driveway apron for collection - NOT in the street.

We are seeing a high number of polycarts being placed in the street lately. The placement of the polycart in the street affect our ability to properly sweep city streets, plow snow to the curb, forces our garbage and recycling trucks to be in the travel lane for collection and adds additional obstructions in the roadway.

Polycarts are to be placed within 3 feet of the curb, facing forward. Also keep your carts at least 4 feet away from each other, mailboxes, and other objects.

De Pere Public Works appreciates your cooperation!

De Pere adds community policing officers

We're excited to introduce our Community Policing (CP) Officers, which are new positions for our police department. These CP Officers work a flexible schedule, moving their hours around to accommodate a variety of tasks and projects. This focus and flexibility help them be more responsive to community needs and allow us to quickly adjust to various issues that need to be addressed.

Joe Johnson and Charlie Leiterman are our first CP Officers for the City of De Pere!

Please welcome them into this new role!

Also, as part of their active roles in the community, Officer Johnson and Leiterman will primarily work from their squads vs. the office environment and will manage a variety of community-focused programs. This includes Neighborhood Watches, VIPS (Volunteers In Police Services), Citizens Academy, PACK Program (Police and Community Kids – Parks Program), Nuisance Abatements, etc.

These positions are designed to rotate every few years, allowing new officers to become engrained in community policing efforts.

Public Works "Flushable" Information

REMINDER: "Flushable" wipes should go in the garbage , not in toilets. "Unflushable" items, wipes as the main culprit, have been identified in your neighborhood's sanitary sewer system.

These wipes (even if labeled "flushable") can cause your sanitary sewer to backup, cost you for repairs to your home and sewer system, and endanger the safety and our staff and public health.

Please remember to ONLY flush the "3Ps" (Poop, Pee & Toilet Paper)! Thank you for your help. To learn more, click here
