De Pere Fire Rescue Chief Alan Matzke Retires After 40 Years of Service
De Pere Fire Rescue’s Chief Alan Matzke is retiring today (April 1, 2025) after 40 years of exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to public safety in the City of De Pere.
Chief Matzke began his career with De Pere Fire Rescue in 1985 as a part-time firefighter before becoming full-time in 1990. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, serving as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief, before becoming Chief in 2016.
His leadership has shaped the department in countless ways, ensuring it remains at the forefront of emergency response and firefighter safety.
As he closes this chapter, it's difficult to summarize Chief Matzke’s immense impact. He has touched the lives of countless individuals—whether those he’s befriended and advised throughout his tenure, or those he rushed to comfort, aid, or rescue in all corners of our city.
Under his guidance, the department modernized emergency protocols, enhanced training standards, and strengthened collaboration with community partners and other rescue agencies.
His selflessness, foresight, and dedication have made a lasting impact—not just on the department, but on the entire De Pere community.
