For the first time, the City of De Pere is implementing No Mow May.

This program is an optional and volunteer initiative that allows property owners to delay lawn care throughout May as a way to promote bee and pollinator-friendly habitats in the City.

Simply put, the impetus of No Mow May gives natural elements like flowers more time to grow, and thus pollinators more time to undertake their work and collect more nectar.

We ask that homeowners who are participating post a sign stating their participation in the program and to let us know they are helping out. A free sign can be picked up at the Municipal Service Center (MSC), located at 925 S. 6th Street. Registration and sign posting are not mandatory, but it will help distinguish your intentions. You may call the MSC at 920-339-4060 with questions or to schedule a sign pick-up.

Please note, a property can still be issued an order to cut if the property contains noxious weeds above and beyond what might be expected from a ‘helping’ lawn.

For those looking for other ways to help, residents can also help pollinators by starting their own native wildflower garden. This would be a great way to liven up their yards and help the bees.
