History
In 1960, the City of De Pere signed a 100-year lease with a group of volunteer parents, allowing them to build a Little League field at Tenth and Cedar Streets in West De Pere. Inspired by other communities, the parents began construction on the park, adding a backstop, fence, and other amenities.
Little League Park opened on June 8, 1961, and was renamed Kelly Danen Park in 1969, honoring one of the founding fathers who helped organize Little League in De Pere and was active in the area with youth baseball. He was also an alderperson (West side, 4th district) for 8 years in the 1960’s.
