LONG-TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE

By offering partial income replacement, Long Term Disability Insurance can help to lighten the financial load if you become unable to work due to a disability. Coverage is provided to you by the City of De Pere at no cost and no action is required on your part if you are an employee working 20 hours per week. Long-term disability insurance is through The Standard. In the event you become disabled and are unable to work, this policy provides 60% of wages, up to $5,000 per month, after 90 days off. Coverage is effective the first of the month following date of hire.

SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME PROTECTION

The City offers Supplemental Income Protection to non-represented employees whose annual base salary exceeds the long-term disability (LTD) maximum ($100,000 annual income).  This benefit is provided at no cost to employees!

Non-public safety employees are automatically enrolled in supplemental income protection. Supplemental income protection supplements the LTD coverage to ensure employees receive income replacement at 60% of their base salary, up to $170,000 of annual income when they are unable to work for at least 90 days due to illness or injury. This plan is administered by UNUM.  Employees will receive policy information mailed to them after they are enrolled.

Non-represented public safety employees are offered supplemental income protection through Lloyds of London. Supplemental income protection pays a monthly amount in addition to the City’s group long-term disability coverage. Since this is an underwritten plan, the decision to approve or deny additional coverage as well as the amount of the coverage is up to the carrier.  Once underwriting is completed, you will be provided with information on the additional coverage available to you.

  • Whether or not you are approved for supplemental income protection through Lloyds of London, you will continue to have coverage under the City’s basic LTD plan, administered by The Standard, which provides 60% of wages, up to $5,000/month, if you are unable to work due illness or injury that last longer than 90 days.
