Weather Announcements - Week of February 20, 2023

If weather forecasts remain accurate, we are about to undergo a significant snowstorm. Please be mindful of the following:

UPDATE:

**Snow Emergency Ending Early** The original snow emergency declaration was to run until 5am tomorrow morning, however the plow crews were able to finish their routes faster than anticipated so we are rescinding the Emergency Declaration effective at 3:30pm today, Thursday 2/23

---------------

⚠️ Snow Emergency/Parking Ban 🚫
Due to potentially heavy accumulating snowfall and gusting winds, and in accordance with De Pere City Ordinance 150-10, the De Pere Chief of Police has declared a Snow Emergency starting at 5pm Wednesday/today (2/22/23) and ending at 5am on Friday (2/24/23). No vehicles should be parked on the streets during this period to facilitate snow plowing operations. Any parked vehicle in the roadway during this time is subject to enforcement action that could include being towed at the owner’s expense if the vehicle poses a major obstacle for plowing.

⚠️ Garbage Collection Suspended Thursday 🗑️
We are suspending garbage/recycling collection Thursday (2/23/23). Thursday routes should put out carts for collection on Friday instead (02/24/230. With the heavy snow and high winds forecasted in addition to snow plowing, carts placed out Thursday may lead to carts being tipped over/damaged and garbage and recycling blowing around. Please place carts out for Friday morning by 6:30 am for collection.

⚠️ Snow Plow Operations 🦺
Below is our target plan. Note that this plan may be adjusted as necessary to match the intensity of the storm and the needs of the community.

👉 Tuesday/Wednesday

  • Crews split overnight to address this storm.
  • Six staff stayed till 2 am and six came in at 4 am.
  • Those that were out at 2 am returned this morning at 6:30 am.
  • At 6:30 am we transitioned into a full-city plow and garbage/recycling collection.
  • We will plow the city this morning and assign staff to maintain plowing main roads. Those 6 employees will remain on the mains until 9 pm this evening.
  • At 9 pm, we will have two (2) employees, one east and one west, come in and address the major arterials and assist PD/FD with responding to emergencies if needed.

👉 Thursday

  • At 3 am, we will have all staff report and transition into a full-City plow. We envision this taking 6-8 hours, if no issues.
  • After equipment fuel-ups and lunch breaks, staff will return to do another full-City plow starting around 10-11 am tomorrow as the storm will hopefully be wrapping up.  That should take us to about 3-4 pm.

⚠️ Driver Safety 🌨️
We urge all residents to reduce or eliminate any travel during this storm. If you need to be on the road for any reason, please drive carefully.
