Since 2007, De Pere and its sister city Åmål, Sweden, have emphasized creating partnerships and sharing ideas in the realm on Economic Development/Tourism. Here are some highlights:

Clocksamal clock

At one of the delegation visits, Ulrika, a city official from Åmål who is in charge of their main street program admired the clock in west De Pere at the end of the bridge. She searched to find a comparable clock. The two cities share this clock.

Seroogy's Chocolates

Amal Delegations have often toured Seroogy's Chocolates. This connection in Seroogy's resulted in additional business as Åmål ordered a custom chocolate bar from Seroogy's Chocolates. They purchased over 500 of the chocolate bars and distributed them during their 375 year celebration. Mayor Walsh and other delegates visited.

Art Walk and St. Norbert Days artwork from amal

De Pere Sister Cities shared their story at De Pere Art Walk in August of 2021 and at St. Norbert Days in September 2021. A few Swedish items were shown and we were able to share some Swedish artwork sent to us from Åmål. More art work and the Sister Cities Story can be seen in the lobby of XO Fitness in De Pere.

Opportunity for Economic Connections

Sisters Cities began with an economic business connection and are always looking for opportunities for economic development. Both De Pere and Åmål feature prime fishing year round and tourists from Wisconsin will find that Lake Vänern makes a trip to Sweden worth while.
