🗳Election For April 7th🗳

Late Monday afternoon, the Wisconsin State Supreme Court ruled that in-person voting for the April 7 election will continue as planned. Needless to say, this is a unique election for everyone involved (candidates, poll workers, City staff and voters, alike). That said, we have put a number of safety measures in place to make in-person voting as safe as possible. Please view those measures below, as well as a summary of main things you should know.

◾️ WAIT TIMES
If you are heading to the polls between 7 a.m. - 8 p.m., do not forget your valid photo ID. You should also expect some delays and to be prepared to wait in lines. We will provide updates on times within this post (and on deperewi.gov), so check back often before you head out.

OVERALL UPDATE:

⚠️ Latest update: Update, As of 3pm, east side polling place has 374 voters, an increase of 61 in the last hour…..the west side has 278, an increase of 41 in the last hour.

Steady at both east and west locations and biggest waiting line has been 3 to 4 people in the last three hours. There has been 313 voters on the east side and 237 on the west side through 2pm today.

WEST SIDE:

⚠️ No considerable lines to report at Community Center as of 11 am.

⚠️ Community Center polling place - no real lines to wait up to 8:30 am thus far.

EAST SIDE:

⚠️ 11 am update. Short, sparse lines.

⚠️ 9:45 am update: No lines to report at east side site. St.Francis/Notre Dame Middle.

⚠️ 7:40 am: St.Francis/Notre Dame Middle (East side polling spot from hereon in)...there were about 15 people lined up to vote at 7:00, otherwise no lines but for a few people after that....at 7:40 nobody was in line.

◾️ SAFETY MEASURES:
We will have hand sanitizer available for all voters to use when they enter the building. Pens will be handed out for the voter to keep so we do not have to re-use pens. Floors are marked at 6 ft intervals to maintain social distancing, and we will limit the number of people in the building at any one time. Surfaces and equipment will be sanitized every 10 minutes or as often as feasible.

◾️ POLLING LOCATIONS:
Our polling locations have been consolidated this year from four sites to two. Open polling locations include the De Pere Community Center for residents on the west side of the Fox River to utilize on election day, and St. Francis Xavier Parish Community Center (Notre Dame Middle School) for residents living on the east side.
➡️ The De Pere Community Center is located at 600 Grant Street.
➡️ The St. Francis Xavier Parish Community Center (Notre Dame Middle School) is located at 220 S. Michigan Street.

◾️ ABSENTEE BALLOTS:
➡️ The United States Supreme Court also issued a decision last night, ruling on the deadline for absentee ballots.
Under this ruling, in order for an absentee ballot to be counted it must be postmarked by April 7 and received by 4 pm on April 13th or hand delivered to De Pere City Hall by 8 pm on Election Day, April 7. Ballots postmarked after April 7 or hand delivered after 8:00pm on April 7 cannot be counted.
The April 7th postmark requirement is a new addition. Also, if a voter requested a ballot but did not receive one, they CAN go vote at the polls.
➡️ NOTE: There is a drop-off box located outside of City Hall (labeled for water bills). You can use this, and do not need to come into City Hall, although our doors are open if you do have inquiries or prefer to hand off in-person.
If someone has not received their ballot and is at-risk, we do offer curbside voting. If they can drive to/get a ride to their polling place, poll workers can bring a ballot out to their car.
